colleges (surprisingly) are STILL NOT fully compliant with new data laws, almost a full year and a 1\/2 after they came into force.<\/p>\n<p>The RM Education &amp; Trend Micro report also revealed that there is currently widespread concerns among schools that fines for breaching the&nbsp; (GDPR) general data protection regulations would have a massive impact.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/seersco.com\/articles\/gdpr-principles\/\">GDPR rules<\/a>, which took effect on 25th May 2018, governs how organisations such as schools handle personal data.<\/p>\n<p>The survey of 156 schools and college across Great Britain highlighted a series of concerns:<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"margin-top: 0px !important; padding-top: 0px !important;\">Namely:-<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>52 per cent believed they were not fully compliant with GDPR.&nbsp; Versus 48 per cent who said they were.<\/li>\n<li>14 per cent admitted they did not have a clear plan to become <a href=\"https:\/\/seersco.com\/articles\/gdpr-compliance\/\">GDPR compliant<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>39 per cent cited a lack of financial investment as the biggest challenge to complying with GDPR.<\/li>\n<li>79 per cent said financial fines for non-compliance would \u201csignificantly impact\u201d them.<\/li>\n<li>75 per cent said accidental loss by staff was the biggest threat to data, while 19 per cent said cybercriminals.<\/li>\n<li>38 per cent said they had increased their IT spend as part of becoming GDPR ready.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/seersco.com\/contact\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3415 size-full\" style=\"margin-top: 0px !important; margin-bottom: 0px !important;\" src=\"https:\/\/seersblogs.here\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/730x230-school-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seersco.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/01\/730x230-school-02.jpg 730w, https:\/\/seersco.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/01\/730x230-school-02-300x95.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Adnan Zaheer, Data Protection expert &amp; CEO at Seers described the findings that half of schools and colleges are not fully <a href=\"https:\/\/seersco.com\/articles\/gdpr-compliance\/\">GDPR compliant<\/a> as \u201cextremely concerning\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cThe risks are huge&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Having a clear GDPR strategy in place to ensure all data is protected, and able to be deleted should a pupil or parent request it, is a vital component of data Protection and Compliance&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the report also indicates that schools are facing more demands for &#8220;transparency about data&#8221; since the introduction of <a href=\"https:\/\/seersco.com\/articles\/complete-gdpr-summary\/\">GDPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Over&nbsp;19 per cent of schools, universities &amp; colleges say that staff, parents and pupils were \u201cmore\u201d, and 5 per cent \u201csignificantly more\u201d, demanding about how much of their personal data is being kept and where.<\/p>\n<p>A Department for Education spokesperson said:&nbsp;\u201cSchools are expected to appoint a data protection officer and have a range of policies and processes in place to enable them to be compliant with GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Report says four in five schools believe fines for breaching new data protection regulations would &#8216;significantly impact&#8217;
