EU Regulator calls for additional measures against targeted advertising
The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) has suggested a complete ban on targeted advertising be included in a major reform to digital services rules. The “Digital Services Act” and the “Digital Markets Act” serve to provide a safer digital environment but more needs to be done to protect individuals online.

CNIL taking a tough stance on enforcement of cookies as deadline approaches
The French Data Protection Authority (CNIL) is taking a tough stance on enforcement of cookies by issuing fines to “Big Tech”, namely “Google” and “Amazon” totalling €135 million in 2020 for unlawful use of cookies and issuing revised guidelines on use of cookies and tracking technologies that need to be complied with by March 2021.
