I’ve been playing guitar for a while, but keeping a steady rhythm still feels harder than it should, especially when switching between chords or trying faster passages. I don’t want every practice session to feel like a technical exercise. What are some practical ways to develop better timing without losing the enjoyment of playing?

Developing a steady sense of rhythm takes time, whether you're learning guitar, playing piano, or working on drum patterns. It's easy to rush through familiar passages or slow down when a difficult section appears, especially when practicing alone. A simple routine can make a real difference: choose a short passage, start at a comfortable tempo, and repeat it until the notes feel consistent. Using a metronome app during practice helps you stay aware of the beat and gradually increase speed without sacrificing accuracy. Don't worry about playing fast right away. Focus on clean notes, even spacing, and relaxed movement. As your confidence grows, try different tempos and rhythms to challenge yourself. Regular, focused sessions are often more effective than occasional hours of repetition, and the progress becomes easier to notice over time.
